Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

MyMatcha is an iOS app for finding, rating, and sharing matcha cafes. It is built and operated by Jenson Chu, an individual developer. In this policy, "we", "us", and "our" refer to Jenson Chu, and "you" refers to anyone who uses the MyMatcha app.

This policy explains what information the app collects, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the MyMatcha iOS app and this website.

2. What we collect

We collect only what the app needs in order to work. There is no hidden collection, and nothing below is gathered for advertising or analytics.

  • Email address. The address you sign up with. Used to create your account, sign you in, and send password resets.

  • Name and username. Your display name and @username. Used to identify you to other users on your profile, reviews, and comments.

  • Photos. Your profile photo and any photos you attach to a review. Used to display them on your profile and alongside your reviews.

  • Content you create. Reviews, ratings, comments, bio, cafe suggestions, feedback, and reports. Used to show your content in the app and operate the service.

  • Device identifier. An Apple push notification token for your device. Used to deliver push notifications, only if you turn them on.

  • Location. Your approximate or precise location, if you allow it. Used to sort cafes by distance and center the map. See section 3 below.

  • App and device details. Your app version, iOS version, and device model, sent only when you use Send Feedback. Used to reproduce the problem you are reporting.

We do not collect your date of birth, phone number, contacts, payment information, health data, or browsing activity outside the app.

3. Your location stays on your device

We never send your location to our servers, and we never store it. If you grant location permission, your device uses it locally to sort nearby cafes by distance and to center the map. That is the entire purpose. Your location is not written to your account, not attached to your reviews, not shared with anyone, and not retained after you close the app.

Because of this, your location is never linked to your identity. You can turn location access off at any time in iOS Settings, and the app will continue to work without it. You will simply lose distance sorting and automatic map centering.

4. What is public and what is not

MyMatcha is a social app, so some of what you create is visible to other users. It is worth being precise about which is which.

Visible to other users of the app

  • Your display name, username, and profile photo

  • Your bio, and any Instagram or TikTok handle you choose to add

  • Your reviews, ratings, review photos, and comments

  • Your badges, your follower and following lists, and your position on leaderboards

Not visible to other users

  • Your email address

  • Your password, which is stored only in hashed form and is never visible to us

  • Your location

  • Your notification settings

  • Who you have blocked or muted, and any reports you submit

Treat anything in the first list as public. If you would not want something associated with your name, please do not post it.

5. No tracking, no ads, no data sales

To be direct about this, because many apps are not:

  • We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone, for any purpose.

  • We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA).

  • We do not show advertising in the app.

  • We do not use third-party analytics or ad networks. The app contains no analytics SDK.

  • We do not build advertising or marketing profiles about you.

6. How we use your information

We use the information described above only to:

  • Create and maintain your account and keep you signed in

  • Show your profile, reviews, ratings, photos, and comments to you and other users

  • Operate social features such as following, likes, comments, badges, and leaderboards

  • Send notifications you have asked for, in the app and by push

  • Keep the community safe, by reviewing reports, enforcing our rules, and removing content that breaks them

  • Fix problems, respond to your feedback and support requests, and improve the app

  • Meet legal obligations where they apply

7. Who we share information with

We share your information with only two service providers, both of which process it on our behalf and under contract:

  • Supabase provides our database, authentication, and file storage. Your account, your content, and your photos are stored on their infrastructure.

  • Apple delivers push notifications through the Apple Push Notification service, if you have enabled them.

That is the complete list. We do not share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics companies, because we do not work with any.

We may disclose information if we are legally required to do so, for example in response to a valid legal request, or where we believe it is necessary to protect someone's safety or to investigate a violation of our Terms.

8. Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your information for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from within the app, under Settings → Delete Account.

Account deletion is real and permanent. Deleting your account removes your account record, and everything attached to it is deleted along with it: your profile, reviews, ratings, comments, likes, follows, notifications, and badges. Your uploaded photos are removed from storage as part of the same process, and we verify their removal rather than assuming it succeeded.

This cannot be undone. We cannot restore a deleted account, so please be certain before you confirm.

Two things may survive deletion, and we would rather say so than leave it unsaid:

  • Reports you have filed about other users or content are retained, so that a moderation decision does not disappear along with the account that reported it. These are kept separately from your profile.

  • Backups held by our infrastructure provider may retain copies for a short period before they are cycled out in the normal course.

9. Your choices and rights

You have direct control over most of your information from inside the app:

  • Access and correct your profile information, including your display name, username, bio, and photo, from Edit Profile

  • Delete your account and all associated content, from Settings

  • Control notifications per type, under Settings → Notifications in the app, and system-wide in iOS Settings

  • Turn location off in iOS Settings at any time

  • Block or mute other users, and report content or accounts that break our rules

Depending on where you live, you may also have legal rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to object to how we use it. You can exercise any of these by emailing privacy@mymatchaapp.com. We will respond within the time period required by the law that applies to you, and in any event as promptly as we reasonably can. We will not treat you differently for making a request.

10. Children

MyMatcha is not intended for children under 13, and you must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at privacy@mymatchaapp.com and we will delete the account and its information promptly.

11. Security

Your data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and stored on infrastructure protected by access controls that restrict each account's data to that account. Passwords are stored in hashed form and are never visible to us. Your sign-in session is held in the iOS Keychain on your device.

No service can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and any regulator as required by law.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will give you notice in the app before it takes effect.
